Diabetes is one of the most widespread diseases in the Western world. If you or one of your loved ones suffer from this illness, you may find this program useful. It lets you create different databases with all the data regarding your management of the disease, such as your glucose levels at different moments of the day, your meals consumed, blood pressure, weight, exercises and more. This way, you can keep track of your disease and make the changes required by its management. Those data will serve also as records you can show to your physician so he/she can give you advice on selected items. For this purpose, the program lets you print any of your records.

The application also has a very useful and comprehensive food database which shows information about many common meals. For example, you can find out how many calories, fat and cholesterol a cheese sandwich has, so you can decide if you should include it in your daily meals. All in all, it is a very useful program for diabetes sufferers and their families. There are also versions for Palm and iPod so you can record your data anywhere.

You can try the shareware version of the program during 15 days. If you intend to keep using the application then you will need to purchase a license.

Diabetes Pilot is a good start containing categories of medical knowledge diabetics need to track. However, it is not very intuitive in function and the "help" section is very poor; it is not organized in a logical manner and gives more hype than clear instructions about functions, edits, and report building. It easier to look up food by searching name than by groups. It does not easily let you modify calculations if you've a 1/4 of cup rather than 1 cup; it does not automatically compute new calculations when you modify the serving size, such as "Lose It" does. It does not offer brand name foods nor does it let you easily build the values for your own receipes nor let you store your favorites that you have created and eat frequently. It could go a lot further. It could be more accurate with data and more user friendly.
